Why does dirty water clog filters?  The TivaWater solution.

Sediment
Every filter in the world is at risk of clogging or stopping up if any type of dirt or sediment is present in the source water.  Of course, where you live makes a difference.  If you use Ugandan tap water then you will see less particles than if you fetch from a well or a pond.  Nevertheless, everyone knows all of the water in Uganda has some amount of sediment because you can see it in different places. Sometimes you know the water is dirty because it is just discolored and brown.  Others  may notice the small ring of dirt that is left behind in the top of the saucepan after boiling.  For some a kitchen faucet or tap that has been clogged up and stopped is the evidence that small, sometimes unseen, dirt particles are flowing in the house everyday.

It's Just Too Big
The problem with dirt and a water filter is one thing.....size.  Yes, just about every filter is designed to prevent very, very small things from passing through the filter because that is how they stop bacteria and viruses.    Basically, water filters use materials with holes or openings so small that the bacteria will not squeeze through it!!  The germs are blocked and then die because they need oxygen, light and food. Unfortunately, these same holes can get blocked by dirt and sediment found in dirty water and will make the filter worthless.  It can happen to every filter.

The TivaWater Solution
The engineers of the TivaWater filter were determined to design a filter that would not get stopped up so they came up with a great idea!  Before the dirty water flows into the filter it must pass through a pre-filter cloth made from a high density fiber material.  This quality pre-filter is so tight and durable that it prevents virtually any sediment from entering into the filter medium.  It works!  The owner only needs to lift out the filter cloth occasionally and rinse it off in a pan of water and then replace it back on top of the filter. It seems like such a simple idea but it is one of the reasons that we believe makes the TivaWater filter the best in the world.  The lifespan of TivaWater should be at least ten years without replacing any parts and spending anymore money.
